Clifden RNLI assist in rescue operation in Killary Bay

The crew were tasked by the Coast Guard at approx.12.20 to reports of persons in the water off Rossroe Pier.

Clifden’s Atlantic 85 launched at 12.35 under the command of Helm Chris Nee with Kenny Flaherty, Shane Conneely and Dara Wallace as crew.

St Christopher, Clifden’s Shannon class ALB slipped her moorings shortly afterwards with John Mullen as Coxswain and Dave Reilly, Joe Acton, Tom Guy and Neil Gallery as crew. They were assisted by a shore team of Tony Casey, Michael Barett, John B Mannion, Caroline Barry and Johnny Wallace.

The crew proceeded to the scene just off Rossroe Pier, Killary to commence a search of the area but were subsequently stood down by the Coast Guard who had the situation under control. All casualties were accounted for and receiving appropriate care.

Speaking about the shout, Clifden RNLI Coxswain John Mullen said, ‘We were happy to be called on by the Coast Guard to assist in this operation and we are all relieved that it was a good outcome today.

‘As We are entering a busy season on the water I would urge all boat owners to carry out regular maintenance checks on their vessel. Carry spare parts and tools if possible and ensure that you have a means for calling for assistance if you find yourself in trouble. If you see someone in trouble on the water or are in difficulties yourself do not hesitate to call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
