Enniskillen RNLI assist two people on Lower Lough Erne

Lifeboats News Release

Just after 2pm on Wednesday, ( 9 April), Enniskillen RNLI’s inshore lifeboat, the John and Jean Lewis, was launched at the request of Belfast Coastguard following reports that two people needed assistance after their 19ft boat experienced mechanical issues.

Winds were south easterly. Visibility was good.

The casualty vessel, with two people onboard, was located close Rabbit Island. The crew assessed those on board, and they were both found to be safe and well.

The lifeboat crew then assessed the casualty vessel, and the decision was made to tow the vessel to a safe mooring as it could not make good progress without assistance.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland boat was also in attendance.

Speaking following the call out, Enniskillen RNLI Helm Kane Howe, thanked all those who assisted on Wednesday afternoon.
He said, “We would always advise those using our waterways to carry a means of calling for help on your person. Tell someone else where you’re going and when you’ll be back. They can raise the alarm with the coastguard by calling 999 or 112 if you are overdue. Always check your equipment, and if you see someone in trouble on the water or are in difficulties yourself the number to dial is 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.”
