First outing for Trearddur Bay RNLI father and daughter duo
After a long wait, RNLI Volunteer Katie-Jayne finally got to join her dad, RNLI Bronze Medal Volunteer Helm Dafydd on the lifeboat.
Katie-Jayne, who has been volunteering as shore crew with the station since her 18th birthday last year, donned a drysuit for the first time. Speaking about her experience, she said:
'I was so excited to get out on the water as a crew member for the first time today. All I’ve wanted to do since I was a little girl is follow in my dad's footsteps and today is the start of that!
'I’ve had some amazing experiences growing up with my dad being on the crew, from meeting the Prince and Princess of Wales, to being a part of Saving Lives at Sea and I can’t wait to see what’s next.'
Helm Dafydd added:
'I am so proud of Katie, she has been waiting for this for so long. It was brilliant to be able to take her out as a crew member and see her become a part of the station as a volunteer over the last year, continuing the RNLI family "One Crew" ethos.'
