The event, held at Hunstanton Sailing Club the previous day, was organised by friends Lesley Parfitt, Pru Fox and Julie Oughton, who are all members.

Pru, who also volunteers in the souvenir shop at Hunstanton RNLI, said: 'We had about 50 along for afternoon tea, with scones and cakes made by our families and friends, as well as tea, Prosecco and sandwiches, with a raffle and a quiz.

'We sold out within a day or two, so we've decided we've got to do another one.'

Lesley, whose daughter Charlie is a hovercraft commander at the station, while her future son-in-law Ed is a helm, said: 'When you live by the sea, you never know when you might need the RNLI.'

Notes to Editors

Volunteers at Hunstanton operate both the inshore lifeboat Spirit of West Norfolk and search and rescue hovercraft Hunstanton Flyer.

They are one of the region's busiest crews, who launched 34 times in 2024.

Like those at more than 200 RNLI stations around the coast of the UK and Ireland, their work would not be possible without the kindness of those who donate to the charity that saves lives at sea.
