
Fleetwood RNLI appoints new Lifeboat Operations Manager
Following the recent announcement of Tony Cowell retiring from the RNLI and stepping down from his position as Lifeboat Operations Manager for Fleetwood Lifeboat Station, the charity has now announced that Fleetwood's new Lifeboat Operations Manager will be Andrew Wilson.
Andy says “being appointed as the LOM for the station is an honour, and one that I am extremely proud of, and I will continue to help shape and develop the already excellent work carried out by all our volunteers on behalf of the community of Fleetwood and visitors to the area.
In his professional life, Andy’s family has a rich fishing heritage in the town and his own maritime life began with a period as a trawlerman before moving to the Merchant Navy, working his way through the ranks to Second Mate, Andy’s career then took him into the offshore oil and gas industry as a Deck Supervisor, he has also worked as a Heavy Lift Supervisor in the renewables industry, and now works as Deputy Operations Manager and marine surveyor with an international marine surveying company.
The LOM leads the operations team in managing the station personnel and its volunteers. He is responsible for ensuring that all operational activities are carried out in the appropriate manner and that the station’s assets are maintained and kept in a constant state of readiness for launching on service. He also liaises maintains close links with all local emergency services and represents the RNLI’s interests locally in all operational matters.
Andy looks forward to continuing the tradition of passion and commitment demonstrated by all Lifeboat Operations Managers who have previously had the privilege of leading Fleetwood Lifeboat Station.
