Fraserburgh RNLI respond to injured fisherman

Lifeboats News Release

Fraserburgh RNLI lifeboat was launched 3 August 2025 at 7.47pm following a request by HM Coastguard to go to the assistance of a crewman aboard a fishing vessel who had badly injured his hand at sea.

With Gubby Duncan on his first shout as Fraserburgh RNLI Coxswain, Chay Cumming as Mechanic and William McDonald as Navigator, Fraserburgh RNLI lifeboat left the harbour at best speed within minutes of being paged and headed west with other RNLI volunteer crew members Adam Duthie, Jordan Morrice, Martin Stephen and Declan Sutherland aboard.

On reaching the fishing vessel the casualty who had already been bandaged and strapped was quickly transferred to the lifeboat and taken back to Fraserburgh Harbour where a car was waiting to take him straight to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Coxswain Duncan praised his crew and the speedy response when their pagers had gone off. He said: 'We had enough volunteers turn up to form three crews. Once we were out at sea every one did their job very well and we got the casualty back quickly so he could be taken to hospital. We’re all thinking about him and wish him a speedy recovery.'

Coxswain Duncan was in turn praised by his crew for his command of the boat and his boat handling skills and how quickly and efficiently everything happened. The crew added: 'It was textbook stuff, he did brilliantly.'
