Abersoch RNLI paged following a report of two kayakers in difficulty.
The volunteer crew were paged by HM Coastguard at 12.36pm Friday 8 August after receiving a report of two kayakers who appeared to be in difficulty off Llanbedrog headland.
The Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat was launched at 12.52pm in a moderate south westerly breeze. On arrival at the scene at 12.58pm the kayakers had safely returned to shore. A member of the crew went ashore to check that all was well, and no further assistance was required.
The crew returned to the lifeboat station at 13.45pm where the lifeboat was washed down, refuelled and left ready for service by the volunteer shore crew.
Wyn Jones, Abersoch RNLI volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager, said ‘On this occasion this was a false alarm with good intent. The member of the public who made the call did the right thing in contacting the coastguard.’ He added, ‘If you are in any doubt about somebody’s safety on the water you should call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard’.
