Wicklow RNLI bring three fishermen to safety
Wicklow RNLI volunteers brought three fishermen to safety yesterday afternoon (Thursday 14 August), after their vessel's propeller was caught in ropes six miles east of Wicklow Harbour at the India Bank.
The all-weather lifeboat RNLB Bridie O’Shea slipped its mooring at 3.30pm under Coxswain Nicky Keogh.
The volunteer lifeboat crew located the casualty vessel 20 minutes after launching in a position six miles east of Wicklow Harbour. Conditions on scene were wind from a northerly direction force 3, with smooth seas and good visibility.
After an assessment of the situation was carried out by Coxswain Keogh, it was decided a tow was the safest option given the boat's propeller was entangled in rope and the vessel was unable to make onward progress.
The tow was established, and a course set for Wicklow Harbour with the vessel being secured alongside at 5:05pm.
Speaking after the call out, Blair Sommers, Wicklow RNLI Launch Authority said: ‘This was a quick response by our volunteer crew with their training and equipment providing a successful outcome for all. We would like to remind anyone going on the water during this good weather to have a suitable means of calling for assistance. If you see anyone in trouble on the water, please call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.’
