This past week has been no different, with volunteer crews on the inshore and all-weather lifeboats called to assist seven times in seven days. Among those rescues were to two jet-skiers, four sailors and a person cut off by the tide.

On Monday while on a training exercise in the mouth of Dún Laoghaire Harbour, the inshore lifeboat rescued two people clinging to the side of the capsized jet-ski.

On Tuesday, the inshore lifeboat launched twice. The first was at 12.02pm to assist a paddleboarder who was facing difficulty due to a strong easterly wind outside Sandycove. On arrival at the scene, the paddleboarder had entered safer water in Sandycove. The crew provided safety advice to the paddleboarder, and monitored their return to shore.

Later that day, the inshore lifeboat was launched at 5.05pm to a boat with three people in difficulty near Sandycove. On arrival, a fishing boat was found to be aground on the rocks. Crew stayed at the scene to keep watch while the occupants were assisted safely ashore by lifeguards.

The D class inshore lifeboat launched on Wednesday evening to a person cut off by the tide while cycling on Sandymount Strand. They were located by the volunteer crew and transported safely ashore to the care of the Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard Unit.

Dún Laoghaire RNLI would like to remind coast walkers, especially those with children or dogs to be mindful of the tide times, particularly along Sandymount Strand.

Lisa Hollingum, Area Operations Manager, said: 'The tide comes in rapidly there and can catch people out. If you get into difficulty or see someone in trouble, contact the Coast Guard on 999 or 112.

'It has been a busy period for Dún Laoghaire RNLI, as can be seen by this snapshot of this week's call outs. We are also delighted to welcome three new volunteer crew members aboard this week, who will begin training and boost the station's lifesaving capacity.'
