Islay RNLI launch to medical emergency on yacht
On Tuesday 19 August, Islay RNLI lifeboat crew were tasked by HM Coastguard to a medical emergency on a yacht off the southern coast of Jura.
The Severn-class lifeboat Helmut Schroder of Dunlossit II launched at 12.06am with seven volunteers on board and quickly reached the yacht, just a few miles from station.
Two crew members transferred aboard, assessed the casualty, and the decision as made to transfer them to the lifeboat. The casualty was taken to Port Askaig, where they were handed over to the local ambulance team with assistance from the Jura ferry crew. The local Coastguard team then assisted them to the Coastguard Rescue helicopter for onward evacuation.
This call-out came less than 36 hours after Islay lifeboat’s successful summer gala day at Islay House. The day was very well attended by locals and visitors and raised over £4800 for Islay RNLI. Islay RNLI wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make the day happen and to all those who attended to make it such a huge success.
