The Beaumaris Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington with her volunteer crew, launched in breezy weather conditions and proceeded to the location.

When the lifeboat arrived, the crew of the casualty vessel had been assisted by another craft. The two crew from the capsized boat were taken aboard the lifeboat. Unfortunately all efforts to right the casualty vessel failed. Due to the location of the craft in an area busy with a number of pleasure boats, it was felt that the boat was a danger to navigation.

An assessment was made by the lifeboat helm and in agreement with the Coastguard and vessel owner, it was decided that the vessel should be towed to the nearest place of safety, this being a mooring at Y Felinheli.

The Bangor and Penmon Coastguard Rescue Teams had also been tasked to this incident; thus the crew of the craft being taken ashore to the waiting Bangor team. Once this was completed the lifeboat was a released by the Coastguard to return to her station arriving at 3.15 pm to be refuelled and cleaned and made ready for her next service call.

A RNLI spokesperson said:

‘The swift reporting of the situation by VHF radio to the Coastguard meant our volunteer lifeboat crew were able to reach the vessel quickly, assess the situation and take the best course of action to prevent the situation worsening.

‘We would also like to express our thanks and appreciation to the crew of the other vessels that assisted or offered assistance pending the arrival of the lifeboat.’
