Two paddleboarders rescued by Porthdinllaen RNLI off Nefyn Point
Two paddleboarders were rescued today (25 August) by Porthdinllaen RNLI, after being blown out to sea from Nefyn.
The two had been paddleboarding in the shelter of Nefyn Bay, when they were caught out by the southerly wind and blown out to sea. The two, a father and son, were unable to make their way back to sheltered waters and the alarm was raised by a family member ashore.
The lifeboat with Coxswain Owain Williams at the helm, made the best possible speed and were guided to the exact position of the casualties by Porthdinllaen Coastwatch Team. It was approximately half a mile north of Nefyn point.
Arriving on scene, both paddleboarders were retrieved from the water and attended to by casualty care trained crew members. Both were found to be suffering from the effects of the cold. Returning at best possible speed to the station, the casualties were given a warm shower and handed over to the care of the local ambulance crew, who confirmed that they needed no further medical care.
Keneth Fitzpatrick, Porthdinllaen RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager added:
'The casualties were caught out today by the blustery southerly wind we are currently experiencing. Thankfully they had the correct safety equipment.
'With many thanks to the local Coastwatch Team at Porthdinllaen who were aiding us from their observation lookout and guided us to the casualties position.
'As always, I'd like to thank our colleagues at Porthdinllaen and Aberdaron Coastguard Rescue Teams for their assistance.'
