The inshore lifeboat (ILB) was transported by road to Portpatrick, where it launched and made best speed north to the scene. Upon arrival, the volunteer crew worked alongside Coastguard Rescue Teams and the Scottish Ambulance Service to provide vital casualty care. Stranraer Lifeboat’s Medical Advisor, Dr Ross, was also in attendance, offering expert support which proved invaluable in stabilising the casualty.

Given the severity of the injuries, HM Coastguard tasked its Rescue Helicopter to the incident. The casualty was subsequently airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for further treatment and assessment.

Following the safe evacuation of the casualty, the lifeboat crew stood down, recovered the ILB, and made it ready for service.

Duty Helm Sean Hannah said: ‘Today’s shout was a clear example of how well multiple emergency services work together when someone is in need. Our crew were tasked to support casualty care at Killintringan Lighthouse, and thanks to the swift actions of HM Coastguard, the Scottish Ambulance Service, the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter and our own RNLI team, the casualty was safely transferred to hospital for further treatment.

‘We also wish the casualty a safe and speedy recovery.’
