Abersoch RNLI tasked after paddleboarders spotted in difficulty off Porth Bach.
The volunteer crew were paged by HM Coastguard at 2.15pm Thursday 28 August following a report of two paddleboarders in difficulty off Porth Bach (Sixpenny Bay), Bwlchtocyn.
The B-Class Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat was launched at 2.25pm in a fresh south westerly breeze and a slight sea state.
On arrival at the scene at 2.30pm it was found that the two adult casualties, who were both equipped with a buoyancy aid, had been taken ashore to Machroes beach by the Abersoch Hydro rib which was in the vicinity.
One of the volunteer crew went ashore to assess the casualties who were both found to be safe and well and they were handed over to the care of the Abersoch Coastguard Rescue team.
The lifeboat was stood down and returned to the station at 2.47pm where it was washed down, refuelled and left ready for service by the volunteer shore crew in attendance.
Martin Turtle, Abersoch RNLI volunteer Launch Authority, said ‘Check the weather forecast and tide times before heading out on to the water and avoid offshore winds as they will tire you quickly when trying to return to the shore.’ He added, ‘Always ensure you have a means of calling for help that you can easily reach in an emergency.’
If you do get into difficulty, or spot someone else in trouble, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
