To this end Jon Davenport has passed his tier two training and is a full member of the crew.

Jon said: “I’m really proud to have passed out as crew at Happisburgh Lifeboat Station. I joined the RNLI because I wanted to show my two young sons the importance of giving back to your community and helping others. In my day job I work in film and television, but volunteering here has given me the chance to be part of something truly meaningful. It is a privilege to join such a dedicated team, and I am hugely grateful for the support of everyone at the station and the outstanding training I have received. I am excited to get out on the water and help.”

Happisburgh’s Visits Team and Water Safety Team have joined forces to go into schools and other youth groups to get the water safety message out to as many people as possible. The aim is to give young people and adults the knowledge to go to beaches and inland waters, have fun enjoying themselves and come home safely plus, if they see others in trouble, know how to help them. They have Visited over 10 schools and spoken to over 900 people. Simon Tibble the Station’s Visits Officer said ‘It is really rewarding to help people have respect for the water, keep young people, families and adults safe from drowning. This is the best thing I have done since retirement from work, and I would recommend anyone who likes to make a difference, to come along to a RNLI Lifeboat Station and find out all about the opportunities available.’

The Water Safety Team would like to say

WATER IS UNPREDICTABLE! wherever it is.

4 Things you need to Know:

STOP AND THINK – What dangers can you see?

Don’t be caught out on your own – Stay Together

If you fall in, stay calm and FLOAT to live

Someone in Trouble? Never go in the water yourself

CALL 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard and tell them that someone is in trouble in the water.
