An EPIRB is an Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon. This safety device is used to alert search and rescue services of your location in an emergency.

Largs lifeboat was requested to join other search and rescue assets in searching around Great Cumbrae. Local Coastguard Rescue Teams and the Coastguard Helicopter also took part in the search operation.

The Coastguard Helicopter was able to locate the beacon in Fairlie and soon confirmed the beacon was on the shore in the boatyard.

Once it was established there was no one in danger on the water, Largs lifeboat was stood down by HM Coastguard. The lifeboat returned, refuelled and was made ready for the next service.

We are currently recruiting for a variety of roles including boat crew.

The RNLI provides first-class training and equipment, guidance, and support to all volunteers, from volunteer lifeboat crew to shop volunteers.

Becoming a volunteer is a great chance to play a crucial part in helping to save lives. If you are enthusiastic then you could be an important part of the crew at Largs RNLI, contributing towards the future of the charity and inspiring the next generation of crew.
