Good weather throughout the period saw an increase in shouts close to the bay’s beaches and along the bay’s coasts, with the lifeboat station’s D-Class Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) and her volunteer crew of three tasked to assist paddle boarders, dinghies and beach goers due to offshore winds or incoming tides. The lifeboat station’s Severn-Class All-Weather Lifeboat (ALB), with seven volunteer crew offered assistance on shouts both within Tor Bay, and further out to sea in the waters off the south Devon coast.

Together, the efforts of the ALB and the ILB crews aided 22 people and ensured they were brought home safely.

With the summer season about the hit its peak, the Torbay RNLI Water Safety team continues to work alongside the Torbay RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews, helping to educate beach goers, sailors and other users of the waters in and around the bay to safely enjoy our beaches and waters.

Nick O’Brien, Torbay RNLI’s Lifeboat Operations Manager commented, ‘As ever, our Torbay RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews have worked tirelessly, also spending hundreds of hours each month training to ensure they’re ready to save lives at sea.
