Paddleboard Rescue for Calshot RNLI
Calshot RNLI were paged at 10.12pm on Friday 11 July to reports of concerns for two paddleboarders close to Hythe Pier.
Launching both the Atlantic 85 B Class Lifeboat Max Walls and the D Class Lifeboat David Radcliffe, volunteer crews proceeded to the location.
On arrival, they found that the two paddleboarders were safe and well underneath the pier. They were transferred to the Atlantic 85 and transported to shore at the nearby Hythe Marina.
Both lifeboats returned to station at 11.10pm where both boats were made ready for service again. This shout represented the 37th of the year to date for the station.
Calshot Launch Authority Jim Bryant said of the rescue: ‘Even if you are planning to stay close to the shore, it is important to ensure that you are wearing a lifejacket and have a means of communication to call for help if required. Waterproof mobile phone cases can be purchased for a few pounds and will allow you to keep you phone safe and dry whilst you enjoy your time on the water.’
