Stormy Stan visits captain Dominic McCall on board the paddle steamer Waverley

The paddle steamer Waverley made an afternoon stop at the pier. Ship’s captain Dominic McCall caught up with RNLI mascot Stormy Stan and presented the raft race prizes. Murray and Struan retained their junior winners title along with Sorley on board their raft ‘Cowal Senders’ which also won best dressed raft, while lifeboat crew Matt and David won the adult’s race. Many race participants and supporters were happy to end up in the water to cool off in the intense heat including the lifeboat crew who provided a safety patrol throughout the race.

There was plenty of cake for everyone to restore energy afterward much of which was donated by community members to support the charity’s day. The pop-up tearoom set up in the boat house provided a shady spot for patrons to enjoy refreshment and chat and buy raffle tickets from the busy fundraising team.

The great effort of the local fundraising team and lifeboat crew drew fantastic and much appreciated support for the charity that saves lives at sea. Incoming station chairperson Manus Quigg observed “It was a great day, great to see the community coming together”.
