Beaumaris Lifeboat volunteers tasked to a boat aground in Friars Bay.
At 10.04 am on Friday 18 July 2025 the volunteer crew members of the Beaumaris lifeboat received a page from H.M. Coastguard relating to a yacht aground in Friars Bay in the Menai Straits.
The Beaumaris Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington with her volunteer crew launched and proceeded towards the location given for the casualty vessel.
Once at the scene it became apparent that the ten metre keel yacht was well aground and would have to wait for an incoming tide to refloat. A welfare check was made to ensure the solo yachtsman was well and no obvious damage occasioned to the vessel.
The lifeboat crew assisted in laying out an anchor for the vessel and ensured that the occupant had all the necessary equipment refloat the boat on the incoming tide. As he elected to remain aboard with the agreement of the coastguard the lifeboat was released to return to her station. Whilst the yacht waited for the tide to re-float her.
The lifeboat returned to her station at Beaumaris the volunteers leaving the station at 11.30 am having refuelled and cleaned the lifeboat in readiness for her next launch.
A RNLI spokesman said: ‘The boat occupant did the correct thing in alerting the Coastguard to their predicament. This meant our volunteer lifeboat crew were able to reach the casualty, assess the situation and take the best course of action.’
