Southwold Atlantic 85 Annie Tranmer tows a yacht into harbour.
The 30' motor sailor was on passage from Lowestoft to Harwich when it lost engine cooling water and was left without power.

The lifeboat launched and set course for the last known position, after 15 minutes the vessel was located 1 mile north east of Sizewell.

A crew member was put aboard to assess the situation and after discussion and with the yacht unable to make progress against the tide the lifeboat helm decided the safest course of action was to establish a tow to take the boat to the nearest port of safety, Southwold harbour.

A tow was established and the lifeboat and casualty vessel entered Southwold harbour at 3:15pm. After mooring the vessel on the Town quay the lifeboat returned to station where the boat was washed down, refuelled and readied for service again.

Southwold Lifeboat Launch Authority, Bob Curtis said '"At just after 1.20pm on 17th July the team was tasked to assist a yacht 6 miles south of Southwold that had complete engine failure. The boat launched, located the yacht, attached a line and towed safely back into Southwold harbour, a journey that took two hours.'
