Leigh-on-Sea Lions Club and Hoy Folk Club raise £2,500 for Southend RNLI
The Old Leigh Shanty Festival, a vibrant weekend of maritime music organized by the Lions Club of Leigh-on-Sea with invaluable assistance from the Hoy Folk Club raised £2,500.00. Leigh Lions Club members visited Southend-on-Sea RNLI lifeboat station to present the generous donation.
The successful festival, held this May (2025), brought together 20 shanty bands from across the country. Their captivating performances not only entertained crowds but also generated significant funds for the charity that saves lives at sea.
Sue Gasper, Leigh Lions Chair Lady said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled with the success of this year's Old Leigh Shanty Festival and the incredible generosity of everyone involved. It was a truly memorable weekend that showcased fantastic musical talent while supporting the brave volunteers of our local RNLI lifeboat service’.
The £2,500.00 cheque represents the collective effort of the organizers, performers, and attendees who contributed to making the festival a resounding success. This donation will directly support the essential operations and equipment of Southend-on-Sea RNLI lifeboat, helping them continue their life-saving work.
