Two early Monday morning call-outs for Hartlepool RNLI volunteers

At 12.36am on Monday 21st July Hartlepool RNLI were paged by Humber Coastguard to attend to a crewmember of a chemical tanker anchored 2 miles off Sunderland who had suffered a serious hand injury.

Hartlepool all weather lifeboat John Sharp and volunteer crew members launched at 1.00am and were alongside the vessel at 1.40am.

Two Hartlepool RNLI crewmembers were placed aboard the vessel where casualty care was administered to the injured crewman.

A Coastguard helicopter from Humberside also attended the incident and winched a paramedic on to the vessel where the casualty was examined and then winched up to the helicopter and taken to hospital.

Hartlepool RNLI lifeboat operations manager Steve Pounder said 'Our volunteer crewmembers once again responded promptly and professionally in dealing with both incidents this morning. Many of the crewmembers will only have a few hours sleep before going to there workplaces today. There commitment to helping people in trouble at sea is outstanding.'

The all weather lifeboat returned to the Ferry Road lifeboat station at 3.25am and was made ready for service by 3.40am.

At 1.14 am on Monday 21st July Humber Coastguard requested the inshore lifeboat to assist the local Coastguard team and police with an incident at the Town Wall on the Headland. The Ilb launched at 1.23am and with the incident quickly resolved the Ilb returned to the lifeboat station at 2.00am and was made ready for service by 2.15am.
