Kirkcudbright RNLI fundraisers have been nominated for the Best Use of Event or Community Fundraising Initiative Award at the Scottish Fundraising Award.

Fundraising volunteers at Kirkcudbright RNLI Lifeboat Station have been recognised for their efforts towards the new boathouse appeal after being nominated for the Best Use of Event or Community Fundraising Initiative Award at the Scottish Fundraising Award.

Kirkcudbright RNLI launched a fundraising appeal in June 2024 with the aim to raise £50,000 to help fund the £1.2 million required for the station’s new state-of-the-art boathouse.

Since the RNLI lifeboat station was established in 1892 at Torrs Point, volunteer crew have been launching from a 19th century boathouse.

The appeal aims to bring the station up to the 21st century, including upgrading basic facilities such as toilets and changing areas, as well as a dedicated workshop where the volunteer team can maintain the lifeboat.

Just 12 months after the appeal was launched, fundraisers at Kirkcudbright RNLI had raised an incredible £120,000.

May Brown, President of the Stewarty of Kirkcudbright RNLI fundraising group, says: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted for Best Use of Event or Community Fundraising Initiative at the Scottish Fundraising Awards, an annual event to recognise and reward excellent in fundraising and celebrate the achievements of our amazing volunteer fundraiser.

‘I would like to thank all of our fundraisers, as well as the local community, for their continued support for our new boathouse appeal.’

Volunteers from Kirkcudbright RNLI will attend the Awards Gala Evening on Tuesday 23 September.
