This evening (Saturday 26th July 2025) Horton and Port Eynon Lifeboat was requested to launch immediately after a report was received of a swimmer in difficulty in Slade bay. This was shortly after 8.30pm.
The lifeboat quickly made its way to Slade bay where the crew discovered that the swimmer had made it safely back to shore. The lifeboat then returned to the Lifeboat Station in Horton where it was recovered and made ready for the next rescue.
The lifeboat crew were Dave Tonge (helm), Bryn Kirk and David Frend.
Lawrie Grove, the Lifeboat Operations Manager for the Horton and Port Eynon Station said: -
‘If you find yourself in difficulty or see someone in difficulty on or near the coast, phone 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
To stay safe in the water the RNLI would advise people to:
Check the weather and tides before heading out,
Be aware of rip currents - strong currents can pull even the most experienced swimmers out to sea,
Go to lifeguarded beaches, always swim with others, never alone,
Always swim within your depth and stay within your depth,
Let someone ashore know of your plans and return time,
Always have a means to call for help such as a fully charged mobile phone or marine VHF Radio.’
