New Quay RNLI assist in multi-agency rescue

Lifeguards News Release

On the evening of Monday 14th July at 9.30pm, both New Quay RNLI’s lifeboats were tasked, along with the New Quay and Aberystwyth HM Coastguard Teams to assist a person cut off by the tide, south of Aberaeron.

Andy Campbell, helm of New Quay RNLI’s D-class inshore lifeboat, the Will Morgan, said, “Arriving on scene we could see straight away that a rope rescue from above was not possible and an extraction by sea equally difficult due to rocks and the swell. Therefore, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 187 from St Athan was tasked to extract the casualty by air.

“With both our lifeboats on scene providing illumination and safety cover, the casualty was winched to safety and our lifeboats were stood down and returned to station at 1.30am. It was a great multi-agency rescue and remember if you find yourself in difficulty or see anyone else in trouble on the coast or at sea, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
