New Quay RNLI launch to assist a stricken vessel

Lifeboats News Release

Last month, on the evening of Saturday 28 June at 7pm, while the fundraising rowathon was in full swing, New Quay RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was requested to launch to assist a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) with two persons on board between Cei Bach and Gilfach yr Halen.

Simon Rigby, New Quay RNLI’s helm said, “The vessel had lost power and despite attempting to row they were unable to make any headway against the wind and tide, so they called the Coastguard for assistance.

“Once we located the vessel and arrived on scene, we assessed the situation and decided that the best course of action was to tow the vessel back to Cei Bach, where we were met by New Quay HM Coastguard team. With the vessel safely secured and the occupants safe and well, we returned to station to wash down ready for the next service.”

Ed Hides, New Quay RNLI’s Lifeboat Operations Manager added, ““Remember if you’re heading out on the water this summer and something goes wrong, don’t hesitate to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. We’d much rather launch and find everything is okay than be called too late.”
