First shout for Fowey’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat

Lifeboats News Release

On Sunday 27 July, just hours after Fowey’s new relief Atlantic lifeboat officially went on service at the station, and only 3 days after Fowey’s crew passed out as qualified to launch her, she was called out on her first ever shout for the station.

The coastguard requested that Fowey launch to assist a family of two adults and three children who were returning home from a day out when one of their jet skis broke down 1/4 mile south of Fowey Harbour entrance.

Although drifting, the casualties were in no immediate danger. Fowey’s lifeboat crew made a prompt and immediate launch and on arrival found that the first jet ski had broken down, and on going to rescue it the second jet ski had got a rope caught, meaning they where unable to help.

All casualties where taken onboard the Atlantic 85 while the lifeboat towed the jet skis to the harbour entrance. The Harbour Patrol boats then took the jet ski's to the slip way for recovery. The lifeboat dropped the family off at Caffa Mill so they could recover their jet ski's with a trailer.
