Casualty vessel alongside lifeboat

The volunteer crew of the relief Shannon Class All Weather lifeboat were paged at 4:48pm (Sunday 27th July) and as they were making best speed to the casualty vessel more information was received that the yacht had lost its propshaft and the crew were unable to stem the ingress of water.

Another yacht close by also responded and managed to get onboard with some bungs to stop the ingress of water. Once on scene, four of the yacht crew were transferred to the lifeboat, and two crew members from the RNLB ‘Brianne Adlington’ along with a salvage pump boarded the casualty vessel. The volunteer crew along with two of the yacht crew began pumping out the water and setting up a tow.

The yacht was towed back to Oban and into Kerrera Marina where it was put straight into the boat hoist and lifted out of the water where repairs could be made.

Oban Lifeboat returned to station and made ready for service.
