Lytham St Annes RNLI lifeboat prepares for annual Saving Lives Day
A sea rescue lifeboat demonstration will take place on the River Ribble at Lytham inshore lifeboat station on Sunday 15 June between 11am to 4pm.
The annual “Saving Lives at Sea” day organised by the Lytham RNLI will see the charity which saves lives at sea showcase its lifeboats.
Rescue demonstrations will take place from Lytham’s Shannon class all-weather lifeboat Barbara Anne, the inshore lifeboat (ILB) MOAM, Blackpool Atlantic class ILB, and Southport Rescue Lifeboat.
Hopefully the former Lytham Tyne class Lifeboat Voluntary Worker, now retired at the Lytham Motive Power Museum, will also make an appearance.
The public can also meet the volunteer lifeboat crew at the boathouse then be entertained by live music, stalls, souvenir shop, cafe and bar, all of which provides further interest for visitors.
The event is held in conjunction with the Lytham Classic Car gathering just a few hundred metres along the Lytham Green.
Other Blue Light Agencies (Fire & Rescue, Police, and Coastguard) have arranged to come on the day to support the charity which saves lives at sea and give the public a chance to see their equipment and ask them questions - operational requirements permitting.
The Saving Lives at Sea Day is to give the public a chance to see the RNLI in action and to raise awareness of the charity’s lifesaving role at sea. It will hopefully also raise some funds to help run the RNLI which receives no government funding, relying on the generosity of the public to keep the service afloat.
Later in the year the Lytham St Annes RNLI Station annual Open Day will still be held at the All-weather Lifeboat House on South Promenade (FY8 1SJ) on 30 August in conjunction with the St Annes Kite Festival. The lifeboats will be on display for visitors to view and ask questions.
Chris Wrigley, Chair of the Lytham St Annes RNLI Fund Raising Group said:
‘Hopefully the day will be as successful as last year’s event which brought crowds down to the sea front and helped raise much needed funds for the RNLI.’
