New management group chair for Lyme Regis RNLI
The RNLI has selected a new figurehead for its activities in the Lyme Regis area. Petrina Muscroft has been appointed Chair of the charity’s Lifeboat Management Group. She takes over from outgoing Chair Mark Houghton who served in the volunteer role for eight years.
An area’s Lifeboat Management Group (LMG) meets regularly to coordinate the activities of the RNLI in that area – lifeboat operations, fundraising, water safety education and seasonal lifeguards. The Chair of the LMG has a vital role to play in ensuring a consistent approach is taken across all activities as well as promoting the RNLI in the local community.
Petrina has valid experience of all the lifesaving charity’s activities. She has been the visits officer for Lyme Regis lifeboat station since 2018, member of the water safety team since 2020 when she also became a member of the Lyme Regis lifeboat shore crew and latterly Head Launcher. When she is not volunteering Petrina’s day job is with the RNLI as its deputy manager for Face-to-Face fundraising in South Devon, West Dorset and Somerset.
Area Operations Manager Nigel Jones said; ‘The LMG Chair is an important part of the RNLI’s management structure as the figurehead of the charity’s diverse activities in an area. I am delighted that Petrina Muscroft has been appointed to this key volunteer role in Lyme Regis. She brings a wealth of experience as a fundraiser, water safety adviser and as a valued member of the lifeboat shore crew.’
Petrina Muscroft said: ‘I am delighted to be appointed to this new volunteering position in my home town. It is a privilege to work with the many dedicated volunteers who support the RNLI in Lyme Regis and the local area.’
One of Petrina’s main tasks over the next few months will be to coordinate work to commemorate 200 years of lifesaving at sea in Lyme Regis since 1826.
