New visitor experience opens at Redcar RNLI

Lifeboats News Release

Visitors to Redcar RNLI will now be greeted by a fantastic new display charting the history and commitment shown by lifeboat volunteers over the past 223 years to saving lives at sea.

The display was funded by the RNLI along with donations from fundraisers in Leicester who had previously supported the Station with three Atlantic Lifeboats including their current boat the Leicester Challenge III.

The display features many photos both old and new of the station’s volunteers carrying out their lifesaving duties.

There is also a collage of images donated by local photographer Michael Sreenan who last year held an exhibition featuring volunteers from Redcar Lifeboat Station.

All the photographs showing volunteers in action were printed and mounted by Redcar company Red43. A significant part of the display is the timeline covering the entire 223 years of the lifeboat station’s history. The timeline tells of significant events and lifeboats that have served here at Redcar.

Other features of the display include a photo board of the current volunteer crew, water safety information and an honours board which tells the story of medals and awards given to Redcar Lifeboat Station crew members over the last two centuries.

Mike Picknett, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Redcar RNLI, said: "The display has made an incredible difference to the look of the station.

"Every wall has something to see and a lifesaving story to tell. We hope that visitors to the station will get a real feel for the work our volunteer crew do and the effort they put in everyday to keep people safe in the waters along our coastline."

The Redcar Lifeboat Station display will be open to the public only when the station is staffed and the main door open or during training on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
