A horseshoe buoy was found off Thorness Bay, on the Isle of Wight. The Lymington voluntary crew started a parallel track search pattern in Thorness Bay/Gurnard area, with Cowes conducting a search pattern to the East.

With nothing found, at 1.45am the crew were stood down and returned back to the lifeboat station. The shore crew prepared the boat and it was ready for service again at 2.47pm.

Declan said ‘Our crew are always ready for launch even in the middle of the night. The caller did the right thing and called 999. We would encourage boat owners and anyone using equipment at sea, to label it. It then makes it easier to track down the owners. It can save the RNLI and other rescue services resources and money.

Happy Father’s Day to all our crew.

Crew: Declan O’Riordan (Helm), Simon Nuding, Jo Styles, Ted Ward.
