Largs RNLI launches to Kilchattan Bay
Shortly after 7pm on Thursday 19 June 2025 the Largs RNLI lifeboat was tasked by HM Coastguard in response to reports of an overdue swimmer in Kilchattan Bay, Bute.
The volunteer crew promptly launched the lifeboat and made best speed to the given location. On arrival they began a co-ordinated search of the area. During this search they were joined by Local Coastguard Teams, RNLI Tighnabruaich and Rescue 199, the Coastguard helicopter based at Prestwick.
The swimmer was located close to the shore, where members of the volunteer lifeboat crew assisted other emergency services in providing medical assistance. The casualty wasthen airlifted by Rescue 199 to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Largs RNLI lifeboat was then stood down by HM Coastguard and returned to the lifeboat station, where it was refuelled and made ready for service.
Largs RNLI send their deepest condolences to the family at this very difficult time.
If you get into difficulty, or see someone at risk or in trouble at the coast or in the sea, you should always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
