The volunteers at Beaumaris lifeboat investigate a drifting yacht.
At 9.10 pm on Sunday 22 June 2025, the volunteer crew members of the Beaumaris lifeboat received a request from HM Coastguard relating to a yacht that appeared to be drifting, but they could not make radio contact with the vessel.
The Beaumaris Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington with her volunteer crew, launched and made their way to the position given for the vessel.
Once at the scene the lifeboat volunteers ascertained that the boat was unoccupied and appeared to have broken away from her moorings. an assessment was made by the helm in consultation the Coastguard as to the best course of action to be taken.
It was decided that with a moderate breeze blowing and a strong tide, the vessel was a danger to navigation for other craft. Therefore, for safety reasons, the boat would be towed to the nearest place of safety whilst the Coastguard attempted to locate the vessel owner.
Once the yacht boat was safely moored and made secure the lifeboat was a released by the Coastguard to return to her station arriving at 9.43 pm to be refuelled and cleaned. Once this had been completed by 10.20 pm the crew left the station.
A RNLI spokesman said: ‘The first informant did the correct thing in alerting the Coastguard to this drifting vessel. This meant our volunteer lifeboat crew were able to reach the vessel quickly, assess the situation and take the best course of action to prevent the situation worsening.’
