Both casualties were swiftly taken ashore by a passing Jet Ski, and the inflatable was promptly retrieved by the RNLI crew and brought back to the lifeboat station for safekeeping.

Sunday 22/06/2025 at 2:47 pm, our volunteers launched the all-weather lifeboat after being tasked by H.M. Coastguard that two paddleboarders had been blown out to sea off Traeth Lligwy in the strong offshore wind. The RNLI crew extensively searched the area, and the Coastguard helicopter and Cemaes and Moelfre mobile teams were also tasked.

Rescue 936 located one male casualty two miles out at sea, and the female casualty was rescued ten minutes later, again over a mile offshore.
Both casualties were taken by helicopter to Ysbyty Gwynedd because they were showing signs of hyperthymia.

The RNLI volunteers recovered the kayak and paddleboard and placed them onboard the ALB.
In this instance, both casualties are incredibly fortunate that they were rescued in time, as a few more minutes in the water and this rescue would have resulted in an unhappy ending.

On Monday, June 23rd, 2025, at 2:35, Moelfre ILB launched to reports that two paddleboarders had drifted out in the strong winds at Traeth Bychan. The ILB was quickly on scene. The female paddleboarder was taken onboard our lifeboat, while the male paddleboarder managed to make his way ashore.
The lifeboat crew provided crucial safety advice, emphasising the dangers of using inflatables or paddleboards in offshore winds and the vital importance of checking weather conditions before heading out. This advice can make a significant difference in your safety.

After every shout, we have a debrief at our station, and one crucial message that our volunteers want to get across is the dangers of using inflatables. PLEASE DO NOT USE INFLATABLES OR PADDLEBOARDS IN ANY OFFSHORE WIND. Your awareness and caution can make a significant difference in helping to prevent such incidents. We are committed to your safety.
We aren’t in the game of being party poopers we want people to have fun on the coast but a high percentage of our shouts involve beach toys and inflatables used during offshore winds.
