Lyme Regis RNLI seeks new Launching Authority volunteers

Lifeboats News Release

There are many volunteer roles needed for RNLI lifeboat crews to save lives at sea. A key one is that of Launching Authority, the volunteer who makes the critical decision to launch a lifeboat on service. Lyme Regis RNLI is currently recruiting more volunteers for its Launching Authority team.

The Launching Authority is the initial point of contact between HM Coastguard and the lifeboat crew – accepting a task on behalf of the RNLI, approving the launch and monitoring operations whilst the lifeboat is at sea. At Lyme Regis we have a team of Launching Authorities who share a rota to ensure that one is always on call to respond to a pager alert at any time 24/7, 365 days per year. The duty rota sees volunteers being on call for periods of 4 days twice per month.

If you have an interest in making a real contribution to lifesaving operations, live or work within 15 minutes of Lyme Regis lifeboat station, and have relevant management and local maritime experience, we would love to hear from you.

Further details on the position and details of the application process can be found on the RNLI.org website via the link: Launch Authority - Lyme Regis
