The crew were paged at 6.55pm after HM Coastguard had received a call from a concerned member of the public that a paddleboarder looked to be in difficulty approximately half a mile off Trefor.

Launching into an ebbing tide and a strong south-westerly wind, the lifeboat made the best possible speed to the last known location of the paddleboarder and were on scene within 20 minutes of launching.

With no visual sighting of the paddleboarder, the lifeboat commenced with a search of the area taking into consideration the weather factors of possible drift of the casualty. With assistance being provided by local Porthdinllaen and Llandwrog Coastguard Rescue Teams ashore, the area from Trefor to Dinas Dinlle was thoroughly searched when the Coastguard received a telephone call from the paddleboarder that they had managed to get ashore safely at Aberafon, near Gyrn Goch.

Satisfied that there was no further need for the lifeboat's assistance, the lifeboat was released from its duties and returned to station at Porthdinllaen, where it was washed down and refuelled and ready for service by 8pm.

Dylan Thomas, Porthdinllaen Press Officer added:

'I'd like to thank the member of the public for contacting the Coastguard service today, and for being so vigilant of others out at sea. Although our services were not required, this was a call with good intent.

'As always, we advise those that venture to sea, whether for pleasure or commercially, to always be aware of the weather and tidal conditions, to wear a buoyancy aid, and have means to call for assistance when needed.'
