At 13:20pm on Saturday afternoon, RNLI lifeguards were patrolling the red and yellow flags at Fistral beach when they noticed a female adult unconscious in the water. The two lifeguards immediately entered the water while fully clothed and pulled the casualty from the water before providing emergency medical attention.

The charity’s lifeguards called 999 and paramedics were on the scene within ten minutes, with the casualty transported to the beach car park via lifeguard vehicle and handed over into the care of paramedics.

Lead Lifeguard Supervisor for Newquay, Lewis Timson, said: ‘I couldn’t be prouder of the way that the lifeguards reacted quickly and ran into the water fully clothed to help get the casualty out of the water.

‘Their quick-thinking has helped to save a life, and it really highlights the importance of visiting a beach with lifeguards who are on hand to deal with any emergencies that may occur.’

RNLI lifeguards will be on Fistral beach every day between 10am and 6pm until the 2 November. Find your nearest lifeguarded beach here - https://rnli.org/find-my-nearest/lifeguarded-beaches
