Reflecting on more than 30 years of service

Jason said, ‘I am stepping down as the Volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager at Penarth RNLI Lifeboat Station after 9 incredible years. It has been a privilege to lead this dedicated team and now feels like the right time to hand over the stewardship of the station. The RNLI motto, ‘With courage, nothing is impossible,’ has come to life countless times during my time in this role. I have witnessed the bravery, dedication, and unwavering commitment of our crew first hand.’

‘I would like to express my gratitude to the RNLI for the opportunity to serve my community, to the crew for their dedication and service, and to the people of Penarth for their ongoing support. Your generosity, encouragement, and belief in the work of the RNLI make all the difference. As one chapter closes, another begins—I look forward to starting my new role as a volunteer tractor driver and shore crew member.’

Laurie Pavelin, Chairman of Penarth RNLI thanked Jason saying. ‘It is we who want to thank you for your dedication and leadership. You have always cared about and supported us all not only in connection with volunteering with the RNLI, but also in our personal lives. If there is one person to look to as an example of selfless dedication to serving others, it is you. We are so pleased that you have decided to continue volunteering with us for RNLI Penarth. I look forward to your continuing friendship and wisdom.’

The transition to Philip Lay’s tenure has been seamless as Philip has been a RNLI volunteer since 2003 at Penarth and has held the responsibility of Lifeboat Operations Manager before so he is familiar with the crew and already embedded into the culture of Penarth RNLI.

Philip Lay said, ‘We would like to express our thanks to Jason for his exceptional service to the RNLI and the community. I am very much looking forward to leading the station into the future and working with our volunteers to develop our 24-hour, 365-day-a-year, volunteer-led service to save lives at sea. Together, we will continue the proud tradition of Penarth Lifeboat Station and take the station into its next chapter of RNLI service.’
