Popular fundraising run returns to Clovelly
This May will see runners from across the region descend on the fishing village of Clovelly to take part in the Yellow Welly Cobble Wobble, a gruelling 12-mile adventure along the North Devon coast.
The event, which raises funds for the RNLI, was first held back in 2019, when some 200 runners signed up to tackle a brand-new course carved through the landscape of the historic Clovelly Estate. And now the Cobble Wobble is back even bigger than before, with some exciting new challenges in store.
The event will take place on Sunday May 4 and will offer participants a unique behind-the-scenes glimpse of Clovelly Estate, which counts both William the Conqueror and the Queen of England among its previous owners. Dating back to the 11th century, the village appears in the Domesday Book and has a fascinating history — but most visitors don’t get to see beyond the cobbled street and quaint walled garden.
Runners entering the Cobble Wobble will enjoy exclusive access to the Estate, traversing woodland trails and cliffside climbs in areas that aren’t normally open to the public. The route will take in the bluebell-strewn Brownsham Woods and some of the most stunning stretches of the South West Coast Path before descending to the pebbles of Mouth Mill beach and the clear waters of Clovelly Harbour — finishing with a calf-killing sprint up the infamous cobbled street.
“The last Cobble Wobble was such a great hit with the local running community,” Clovelly Lifeboat Press Officer Suzi Marsh explained. “And we’re so excited to be bringing it back. This will be a great opportunity to enjoy a challenging run through some of the most stunning countryside in North Devon and raise some money for a fantastic cause along the way.”
All runners who finish the course will be awarded a special medal and can enjoy free entry to Clovelly Village after completing their run. Entrance is set at just £30 per person, with all proceeds going to support the RNLI.
