Enniskillen RNLI assist jet skiers off Ross Harbour

Lifeboats News Release

At 9.12pm on Wednesday (30 April), Enniskillen RNLI’s inshore lifeboat, the John and Jean Lewis, was launched at the request of Belfast Coastguard following reports that a jet ski with two males onboard had broken down in the area of Ross Harbour.

The weather was good, with darkness setting in.

Further reports from Belfast Coastguard indicated the casualties were in the area of Lusty Beg with their jet ski under tow from a passing vessel but requested that RNLI volunteers proceed to ensure their wellbeing.

The lifeboat crew searched the north and south side of Lusty Beg and proceeded towards Ross Harbour. Following further communication with the Coastguard, the crew searched towards Muckross, near Kesh, where the two people were found cold but well.

Speaking following the call out, Enniskillen RNLI Helm Stephen Ingram, thanked the passing vessel who assisted: 'We would always advise those using our waterways to carry a means of calling for help such as a mobile phone in a waterproof pouch. Tell someone else where you’re going and when you’ll be back. Always check your equipment, and if you see someone in trouble on the water or are in difficulties yourself the number to dial is 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.'
