Shortly after 4.30pm on Saturday 19th May 2025, the Horton and Port Eynon Lifeboat was launched following information from the Coastguard that a walker with a suspected broken ankle needed assistance in Fall Bay Gower.

The boat made its way to Fall Bay where the injured person, a lady who had been walking with her husband, was located. A helicopter was not available and so with the assistance of members of the Coastguard she was placed on a stretcher and then carried to the lifeboat and taken back the RNLI Lifeboat station at Horton. Her husband, met her at the Lifeboat Station and took her to hospital.

The volunteer crew of the Horton and Port Eynon Lifeboat were Jon Tarrant, Bryn Kirk and Abi Penny.

Lawrie Grove, the Lifeboat Operations Manager for the Horton and Port Eynon Station said:

‘The ascent from Fall Bay is not easy and so, rather than the Coastguards try to carry her up from the bay and then to the road which was some distance away, the decision was taken to bring her back by sea.

If walking at or near the coast always take a phone with you or a radio so that you can summon help if necessary.

If you find yourself in difficulty or see someone in difficulty on or near the coast, phone 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’
