The committee volunteers organise events throughout the year – including the annual Lifeboat Fete, held in Dunbar Harbour in July – to raise funds to help save lives at sea.

Those efforts have been recognised in the Charity Champion of the Year category of the awards.

Fundraising Committee chair Veronica Davies said: ‘We are delighted to have been nominated and shortlisted as finalists for the East Lothian Courier Community Champion Awards. Thank you to everyone who supports us as, without you, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.’

Dunbar RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Ian Wilson said: ‘Congratulations to Veronica and her team. Our fundraisers work tirelessly throughout the year and are among the unsung heroes of the lifeboat station.’

The winners will be announced at an awards evening on Thursday 5 June at the Marine North Berwick.

Established in 1808, 16 years before the formation of the RNLI, Dunbar Lifeboat Station is one of the oldest in Scotland and is located on the south side of the mouth of the Firth of Forth.

Since its formation, its volunteer crews have been honoured with 12 awards for gallantry.

It operates two lifeboats – the Trent class all-weather lifeboat (ALB) John Neville Taylor, moored at Torness Power Station, and the D-class inshore lifeboat (ILB) David Lauder, which launches from Dunbar Harbour.
