Newbiggin’s B class lifeboat Richard Wake Burton was tasked alongside Newbiggin and Blyth Coastguard Rescue Teams to assist the individual on a rising tide. Due to local hazards and tidal conditions, the lifeboat was unable to safely access the casualty’s location on the shore.

However, the crew remained on scene to relay vital information between the coastguard teams and Humber Coastguard, as poor VHF signal in the area made direct communication difficult.

The casualty was reached by the coastguard teams and transferred into the care of the Northeast Ambulance Service. With no further assistance required, Newbiggin volunteer crew were stood down.

Newbiggin RNLI lifeboat returned to station at 7:28pm, where it was washed down, refuelled, and made ready for service.
