Fraserburgh RNLI receive donation from photographic society
At Fraserburgh RNLI lifeboat’s Open Day on Saturday 24 May 2025 several members of the Fraserburgh Photographic Society (FPS) presented a cheque for Fraserburgh RNLI lifeboat for £500.
FPS President Fiona Gordon, Competition Secretary Brian Sandison, Honorary Member Lewie Duthie and Society Member Eugene Rutter handed over a cheque for £500 to Fraserburgh RNLI Coxswain Vic Sutherland.
Eugene, a retired fisherman spoke from the heart when he told the volunteer crew: 'We picked the Fraserburgh RNLI lifeboat because they’ve done a lot for our fishermen. There’s nothing better than if you are out there in trouble because I’ve experienced it, and you see that colour of boat coming across the horizon.'
Fiona told the volunteers how they had raised the money through hosting an annual prestigious photography competition called The Grampian Eye between 10 Clubs in the North East of Scotland at the Fraserburgh Leisure Centre in which almost 120 photographers took part.
The FPS had organised the event and had started planning a year earlier with a core committee being integral in bringing together everyone’s expertise and knowledge to make the event a huge success.
They were also lucky to have sponsorship from Dennis Gordon Electrical and they received many donations of fantastic prizes, from photographic days at Osprey and Pine Marten Hides, to vouchers, photography training vouchers, and prints from well known photographers 'and many many more'
The money raised from the raffles sold on the day was amazing, and the committee chose Fraserburgh RNLI to receive half the money raised - £500 as we know how dedicated the crew are and how important their presence is in the north-east.
Another £500 is being donated to MND Scotland from the funds raised from the raffles.
Fraserburgh Photographic Society was founded in 1951 and are now in their 74th year! They are very lucky to have a vibrant and enthusiastic group of members that come along to the club regularly. They host training nights, practical sessions, judge nights, editing sessions and anything else that encourages members to enjoy their photography more. They are focused on the fun in photography. They are always looking for new members and a new session begins at the end of August.
