Two people and a dog rescued by Hartlepool RNLI

Lifeboats News Release

Hartlepool RNLI volunteers were paged at 5.00pm on Thursday 29th May to assist two people and a dog who had been cut off by the tide at Salterfen Rocks at Ryhope, Sunderland.

Hartlepool RNLI inshore lifeboat heading out to sea recently.
The inshore lifeboat and 4 crewmembers launched at 5.15pm and were at the scene of the incident by 5.45pm where a local Coastguard team were also attending.
The two people and a dog along with two Coastguards were taken aboard the inshore lifeboat from the base of the cliff and taken to Seaham Harbour Marina where other emergency services were waiting to assist.
The ILB and crew returned to the Ferry Road lifeboat station at 6.40pm and was refuelled and made ready for service by 7.00pm.
Sea conditions were described as moderate with good visibility.
Hartlepool RNLI helm Matt Blanchard said 'The couple were a bit shook up after there ordeal but it was good to help them and their dog to safety after the incident.
At 7.25pm the inshore lifeboat and another volunteer crew who had just started a training exercise were tasked by Humber Coastguard to assist emergency services with an incident near Steetley Pier at the Headland, Hartlepool.
Shortly afterwards the incident was resolved and the inshore lifeboat and crew resumed there training exercise.
Earlier in the day the all weather lifeboat took part in a search between Blackhall Rocks and Noses Point at Seaham for a missing person.

With nothing found the all weather lifeboat returned to Hartlepool Lifeboat Station at 2.45pm and was made ready for service by 3.15pm.
