Port St Mary RNLI volunteer recognised for 20 years of service
On Sunday (31 August) morning, Port St Mary Lifeboat Station held a short ceremony to present Honorary Station Treasurer, Ken Leigh, with his 20-year Long Service Medal.
As a fundraiser, Ken has helped raise many thousands of pounds during his 20 years of selfless volunteering, enabling the lifesaving charity to continue saving lives at sea.
The presentation was made to Ken on behalf of the RNLI by Port St Mary’s Fundraising Chair, Ruth Quillin-Creamer, supported by the rest of the volunteer crew.
Ken said:
‘Each shout is only possible with donations from our generous supporters. Every penny counts and the support allows our volunteer crew to have the best possible equipment and training to be able to respond at any time, day or night, 365 days a year.’
Mike Teare, Port St Mary Lifeboat Operations Manager, said:
‘Volunteers like Ken who dedicate so many years to this special charity are a testament to the passion and kindness within our one crew.
‘As Ken said, the generosity from our supporters means we can provide our volunteer lifeboat crew with the best possible training and equipment to save lives at sea. And without our fundraisers like Ken, we also couldn’t launch our lifeboats.
‘Congratulations to Ken on reaching this milestone – I hope he feels as proud as we do as a station.’
