Volunteers complete Casualty Care Course at Walmer RNLI
Walmer RNLI volunteers complete the intensive three day course at the lifeboat station.
Over the last two weeks, 18 Walmer volunteers have dealt with issues including lifesaving interventions for unconscious casualties, CPR and use of defibrillators. Training was also given in dealing with injuries such as bleeds, burns, fractures and head injuries.
Other instruction included how to identify cardiac chest pain, convulsions, anaphylaxis, immersion related injuries and the use of stretchers.
Various scenarios were acted out allowing the volunteers to put what they had learned into practice. The course ended with a twenty question, multiple choice test paper. All of the volunteers successfully passed the course.
RNLI Clinical Trainer Rosie Allen who ran the course said: ‘They were a great team of people to work with. I hope that the skills they have learned will give them confidence and stand them in good stead should they be called upon to use them in an emergency situation.’Notes to editors
