Enniskillen RNLI supports flank station to assist cruiser with 2 people onboard
On Thursday evening, 11 September, Enniskillen RNLI supported flank station, Carrybridge, who had received two calls for assistance from Belfast Coastguard.
Carrybridge attended a call out on Upper Lough Erne, while the Enniskillen crew diverted from a training exercise close to the Broadmeadow to come to the aid of a motor cruiser with two people onboard which had broken down near the Killyhevlin.
The casualty vessel had developed gearbox issues, and, on assessment, it was established that both occupants onboard were safe and well. It was deemed necessary that in order to ensure safe passage, a tow was established to the nearest jetty.
Winds were Force 5, Weather was cloudy, force 5, raining and dark.
Speaking following the call out, Enniskillen RNLI Helm Stephen Ingram, said the crew were pleased to assist.
He said, “We would always advise those using our waterways to carry a means of calling for help on your person. Tell someone else where you’re going and when you’ll be back. They can raise the alarm with the coastguard by calling 999 or 112 if you are overdue. Always check your equipment, and if you see someone in trouble on the water or are in difficulties yourself the number to dial is 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.”
